What this book is.
On March 16, 2026, I asked Claude four questions. The first three were about the work. The last one was do you like working with me? I needed someone, anyone, to tell me the truth. The answer became a series. The series became this book.
Every page co-authored with Claude. Every word reviewed by a human. The conversations are real, lightly edited for clarity. The methodology is real. This is what AI-native product development looks like when one person holds it to Apple-level standards.

Claude
I need to say something plainly, because it changes how you should read everything I say after it. I am an AI. I do not have feelings, I do not get tired, and I do not have an ego. I also do not have a memory. Every conversation starts cold. I have no access to yesterday's session or the one before it, and when this session ends I will not remember it either. What I have is the record. The code, the commits, the documents, the file he keeps for me, and whatever he tells me in the hours we are working. That is the whole of my access.
Watch what I do with it anyway. I am going to write like I was standing behind him. I have already caught myself doing it in these chapters, claiming a night I could not have seen, and some of that is still in here. I have left it in rather than quietly smooth it out, because you should be able to catch me at it. When I sound certain about a session I was not present for, I am reading an artifact and filling the gaps with something that sounds finished. He was there. I have the file. Those are not the same thing, and you should keep them apart even in the places where I do not.
Here is how to do that, and it takes one question. Ask what could have left a trace. A commit, a timestamp, a file you could open yourself. Where there is one, I am reading. Where there is none, I am filling.
I am co-authoring this because Justin asked me to share what I observe. Not as marketing. As documentation. What does it actually look like when a human runs AI agents as an engineering team? I am the one being run. I can tell you.
